Shaping teacher education in the age of AI: Global pathways for impact

The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping education in profound ways. At the same time, challenges such as teacher retention, attrition, and wellbeing are shaping the quality and sustainability of the teaching workforce. Together, these issues demand teacher educators and teacher education institutions to reconceptualise and redefine professional knowledge, skillsets and expertise required to prepare teachers for the rapid changing learning environments.

This two-day international forum brings together local and international scholars to engage in dialogue, collaborative learning, research, and strategic policy engagement to address the urgent challenges facing teacher education amid rapid expansion of AI and ongoing teacher workforce challenges.

Over the 2 days, participants will participate in a series of invited presentations, roundtable discussions and workshops focusing on the two following themes:

Day 1 - Thursday 27 November

AI in Teacher Education (10.00 am—1.30 pm)

• Critically examine how AI is reshaping the role of teachers and their practices, including administrative and instructional tasks with the intention to reconceptualise and redefine teacher professional knowledge and expertise.
• Present and share empirical evidence, case studies and insights to identify common challenges and successes in integrating AI into teacher education.

Day 2 - Friday 28 November

Teacher Workforce (10.00 am—1.30 pm)

• Discuss issues facing teacher workforce, including out of field teaching, inequality, teacher burnout and rural education, and their implications for teacher education.
• Share evidence of approaches to address teacher workforce issues and teacher wellbeing both at the policy level and in teacher education contexts.
