(Non water session) - If you’ve got your own paddleboard or kayak and / or love getting out on the water, the British Canoeing Weather Module is a must-do. Whether you're new to paddling or have years of experience, this short and practical course will boost your confidence by helping you understand how weather affects your paddling. We’ll explore how to read forecasts, spot weather changes, and make safer decisions—especially useful for anyone who paddles solo or organises their own trips. Plus, you’ll get a certificate at the end to show off your new skills!
The British Canoeing Weather Module is one of five new support modules - alongside Tides, Surf & Swell, Navigation for Paddlers, and Open Crossings - introduced in 2025, replacing the older Coastal and Open Water Navigation and Tidal Planning courses.
Key Learning Topics include:-
-How to interpret weather forecasts, synoptic charts, and the shipping forecast
-Effects of wind, storms, poor visibility, rain, and temperature on paddling
-Reading environmental clues (clouds, changing weather conditions)
-How to plan trips safely and adapt to evolving weather situations
The program is delivered by Och Aye Canoe over 2 hours. Cost (including certificate) is £46 (non Paddle Scotland member), £41 (Paddle Scotland member)
