Bright and early, at 9:30 AM, Michael and Amy will be teaching a Beginner Bootcamp! Everyone is welcome :)
Whether you’re a beginner eager to get started, or an experienced dancer looking to refine your technique, this workshop has something for everyone. New to West Coast Swing or want to sharpen your basics? Our Beginner Bootcamp is the perfect launchpad! No partner? No problem! No experience? Even better! Just bring your good vibes and a smile. Michael and Amy will have you gliding across the floor in no time, feeling confident, connected, and ready for more. Let’s dance! BONUS: The cost of the social dance is included, so come back at 8:00 pm for some dancing!
Afternoon Intensive: Switch & Steal with Phoenix Grey!
1:30 PM to 5:30 PM
Ready to take your WCS game to the next level? Join Phoenix Grey for an action-packed “Switch & Steal” intensive designed for experienced dancers who already know how to lead and follow. You’ll learn how to smoothly switch roles mid-dance and master the playful art of “stealing” a partner (with permission, of course!) by joining an ongoing dance. These creative techniques unlock a whole new level of connection, spontaneity, and fun on the floor. Get ready to mix it up and keep everyone on their toes! The cost of the social dance is included, so come back at 8:00 pm for some dancing!
All Levels Lesson with Phoenix Grey!

Phoenix will be teaching an extended 90minute all levels lesson (if you can confidently perform a whip, you’re good to take this class). This class does not include the cost of the social dance.
Social Dance: Dance the Night Away!
8:00 PM to 11:30 PM
Wrap up an amazing day of learning with a night full of music, movement, and connection—our evening social dance is free for all Beginner Bootcamp and Switch & Steal Intensive attendees! It’s the perfect chance to practice your new skills, meet fellow dancers, and soak up the West Coast Swing vibe.
Around 9:30, we’ll carve out a special section of the floor for some high-energy fun: our “Assumed Consent Switch & Steal Zone.” If you step into this space, get ready to switch roles mid-dance or have your partner playfully stolen—no hard feelings, just lots of laughs and creativity! Let’s bring the afternoon intensive to life and keep the party going!

Who:
Michael and Amy Shibasaki: Michael and Amy met at a BCSDC dance and decided to become practice partners to improve their dancing. Along the way, they fell in love and got married. Now they share their love of the dance with the community. They teach group lessons in Burnaby and Vancouver, and workshops around BC.
Phoenix Grey: Phoenix Grey is a Portland-based dancer known in the West Coast Swing community for his proficiency in both leading and following. In 2013, he created the group “Degendering West Coast Swing” to rally support for the removal of gender restrictions from WCS competitions. With the support of the community and his predecessors, the WCS circuit began to remove the gender restrictions. From there, he became one of the first dancers to earn an Allstar ranking in both roles. Having walked the “walk-walk” on both sides, his teaching style focuses on connection, technique, and effective partnering. Phoenix is celebrated for his playful musicality and shameless confidence on the dance floor. He now spends multiple weekends each month traveling, teaching, competing, DJing, and judging around the world.
