Southern Ontario Lyric Opera (SOLO) proudly opens its 2025–2026 season with Giacomo Puccini’s gripping masterpiece, Tosca, for one night only on Saturday, October 4th at 7:30 PM at the Burlington Performing Arts Centre.
Italian-Canadian soprano Maria Vetere makes her highly anticipated SOLO debut in the title role of Floria Tosca – the passionate and formidable diva caught in a web of love, power, and betrayal. Opposite her, celebrated tenor Romulo Delgado returns to the SOLO stage as the idealistic painter and Tosca’s lover, Mario Cavaradossi. Internationally acclaimed baritone James Westman takes on the chilling role of the corrupt police chief, Baron Scarpia.
Baritone Ryan Hofman, last seen in SOLO’s production of La Traviata, returns to perform dual roles as the Sacristan and Sciarrone. Rounding out the cast are John Darrigo as Spoletta and Chris Palmer as the Angelotti. Directed by Gabriel Graziano and conducted by Sabatino Vacca, this production will feature the full forces of the SOLO Chorus, Youth Chorus, and Orchestra.
A tale of political intrigue and tragic love, Tosca follows the fierce and impassioned singer Floria Tosca as she confronts the ruthless Scarpia in a desperate bid to save her lover. Set against the backdrop of revolutionary Rome, Puccini’s unforgettable score and dramatic storytelling make Tosca a cornerstone of the operatic canon.
