Opening Reception and Screen-printing Workshop: Thursday, July 10th, 6pm – 9pm
Location: The Karma Bird House Gallery, 47 Maple St. Burlington, Vermont
Over the past year, my two young children and I crisscrossed Vermont's winding back roads in search of peace signs and the stories behind them. What began as a spontaneous family adventure quickly became a deeper exploration of community, culture, and the enduring spirit of the back-to-the-land movement. Along the way, we discovered that these peace signs are more than symbols, they are living folk art, handmade expressions of hope and connection that quietly dot Vermont's landscape.
The exhibition features a series of photographs documenting the incredible peace signs we discovered on our journey. Through these encounters, my kids and I uncovered a living legacy, a Vermont shaped by those who came seeking a new way of life and stayed to build lasting, community-rooted connections.
During the reception Iskra Print Collective will be hosting a free drop-in style screen printing event throughout the evening, giving guests of all ages a chance to create and take home their own peace sign prints, a hands-on celebration of the collaborative spirit that lies at the heart of this project.
To top it off, Ben & Jerry's will be giving away scoops of their legendary ice cream, adding their long-standing commitment to peace, social justice, and community to the gathering. Together, these elements create a joyful, immersive experience grounded in art, family, and shared values.
We hope to see you there!
Peace,
Shawn, Zoë and Jasper
