A Late-Night Ramadan Workshop

Ramadan softens the heart.

But where do we put the grief we’re carrying?
The rage we’ve been holding?
The heaviness that makes du’a feel distant?

Grief & Rage: Art for the Heart is a guided, embodied workshop designed to help participants release emotional weight in a spiritually grounded, creative way.

Through reflection, movement, and collective painting, we create space to empty what burdens the heart, so it can receive again.

No art skills required. Only sincerity.

• Grief as evidence of love
• Du’a as embodied release, not just words
• Husn al-Dhann (assuming good) as an interruption of suspicion
• Wishing well as an antidote to jealousy
• Salaam as something lived, not symbolic

Participants will:

• Dip rope, brush, or string into paint
• Step back
• Whip it onto a shared canvas wall
• Let the splatter be raw, messy, and honest

The action becomes:

• A physical exhale
• A shedding
• A release
• A purification

The wall becomes collective memory, proof that we showed up for our hearts together.

A Heart That Feels Cleaner!

• Less spiritually blocked
• Less emotionally stuck
• More open in du’a

Tools for Overcoming the Nafs

• Reframing rage as fuel that can be purified
• Practicing sincerity (ikhlas)
• Interrupting ego, suspicion, and bitterness

A Softer Tongue & Cleaner Social Heart
Strengthened protection against:

• Gossip
• Backbiting
• Division

A Felt Sense of Ummah
A lived reminder:
“I am part of something bigger than my pain.”

The environment will be intentionally curated:

• Large canvas/butcher paper wall for collective expression
• Paint stations arranged with care and safety
• Soft lighting
• Reflective sound (Qur’an recitation, instrumental, or silence)

Mental health and spiritual care considerations will be integrated into the space.
