From Pastor Howard:
I invite you to join us for worship on Sunday, August 3, at 11 a.m. in the Sanctuary. If you cannot attend in person, I hope you will worship with us on Facebook Live. This Sunday, I will preach on Luke 12:13-21.
This passage begins with someone in the crowd saying to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the family inheritance with me.” After Jesus refuses to be drawn into a family squabble, he warns the crowd about greed.
To make his point, he tells a parable about a rich man whose fields yielded a bumper crop. To store all the grain, he plans to build a bigger barn. He tells himself that his bigger barn will make it possible for him to “relax, eat, drink, be merry.” Yet, God says to him, “You fool! This very night your life is being demanded of you. And the things you have prepared, whose will they be?”
Jesus concludes the passage, saying, “So it is with those who store up treasures for themselves but are not rich toward God.” The Parable of the Rich Fool raises questions about what really matters. The title of the sermon asks us, “What Are We Building?”
