Another treat for local history fans. Although most of us know about Rev R.S Hawker of Morwenstowe - at BudeLit Fest Richard Wellby will be sharing the hidden history of Hawker's second wife Pauline Kuczynski
Special timing as 2025 marks the 150th anniversary of the death of the famous priest, poet, antiquarian and eccentric, R.S.Hawker - author of “Trelawney”, Cornwall’s unofficial National Anthem and reintroduced the celebration of Harvest Festival into the Church’s calendar.
Richard lived for many years at Hawker's Vicarage in Morwenstowe and will talk about Hawker's second wife Pauline, 40 years his junior and his family's work to collect an extensive and unique portfolio of Hawkeriana, including first editions, Hawker's own annotated books, original letters, including one from his second wife (Pauline), describing her first meeting with him, family momentos and parish records
The event will be a rare chance to hear more about this collection and include a Q&A with the audience and an opportunity to inspect some of the first editions or Hawkers poetry and thought notes.
