Dear Contact Improvisation Movers in Budapest, Hungary and abroad.
I’m delighted to be coming back for another weekend intensive in Budapest.
This intensive is a follow up from the 2023 & 2024 workshops I gave in Budapest, riding on the same themes of kindling somatic embodiment in our CI dancing while moving into performative awareness.
We will, during this weekend, play and extend our focus on dancing with “scores” , and the effect scores can have on our presence, attention and quality of dancing. Scores that I will propose, and scores we may create together in the process.
This weekend is for intermediate and experienced CI practitioners only, as well as for those who have attended in 2023 and/or 2024.
It is important you have a knowledge and strong experience of CI, because we will take time to move in front of each other, witnessing, giving and receiving feedback and practicing verbal exchange from what we experienced as movers and witnesses. Scores can help us, heighten our attention in certain areas,…scores can also “limit” us, scores can “challenge” us, scores can “confuse” us, or bring about unusual pathways….However we look at it, what is of importance is that we play with options, with choice and with creative spontaneous “composing” and “placement” of our dance. Thus cultivating an awareness of instant composition, design and group work.
This is exciting material! We need to be willing to meet the edges of our comfort zones, be willing to be courageously vulnerable and true to ourselves, and most of all to enjoy ourselves….also while making “mistakes” (which do not exist!). We aim to strengthen a keen“knowledge” inside ourselves that can be ‘trained like a muscle”. Call it intuition; skill; luck; mental, physical, emotional maturing; being creatively human….and much more which is unnameable between the lines…
Inspired by the very roots and early years of CI where the practice was witnessed by each other and an audience, we will play with conscious and subconscious composition, in solo, duet, trio and as an ensemble, including embodied witnessing as an essential part of the practice.
“Undoing. Wild, untamed. Safe, yet at the very edge of our being…”
I look forward to seeing you!
