Dennis Hopper: Szelíd motorosok (1969)

gy lehet négyszázezer dollárból negyvenmilliót csinálni. Elég meglepő, hiszen a Szelíd motorosok minden részletében az ellenkultúra filmje. Ha 1968-ban nem törölték volna el a négy évtizede működő filmcenzúrát, lett volna dolga ezzel a filmmel. Így azonban az amerikai kultúrában oly fontos anyagi siker mellett az Easy Rider új korszakot indított el az amerikai filmtörténetben is. Előfutára Új Hollywoodnak, annak a fordulatnak, amely alapjaiban változtatta meg az amerikai filmet. Zenéje szerkesztett – a korszak népszerű előadóinak/együtteseinek nagyon pontosan válogatott számaiból. És a zene ez alkalommal nem egyszerűen a dramaturgiát követi, hanem helyeket, szubkultúrákat is kijelöl a road movie térképén. Ráadásul Kovács László operatőri munkája is minden elismerésünket megérdemli.

An example of how to turn 400,000 dollars into 40 million. And a surprising one, too: Easy Rider is a counterculture film to its core. If the film censorship in effect for four decades had not been abolished in 1968, those in charge would have had their hands full with this one. As it was, and in addition to its considerable financial success, Easy Rider ushered in a new age of American cinema. It was the precursor to New Hollywood, a turning point that fundamentally changed American film. Its music is curated – it features meticulously selected songs from the popular artists and bands of the day. And the music does not simply follow the plot, it puts places and subcultures firmly on the road movie map. The camerawork of László Kovács also deserves the highest praise.
