Welcome to Roxana Donaldson's solo show "The Aftermath", an art installation opening at Calea Victoriei 91-93 Gallery in Bucharest as an exploration of the complex concerns surrounding the elusive nature of security, comfort, and well-being. We are NOT inviting you to a "safe space", that should be obvious.
"The Aftermath" is the second reincarnation of the "Safety First!" modular art installation presented by Donaldson in June this year, at DalgArt.
This time curated by Silvia Stoica and with an opening moderated by Andrei Fasie, enriched with new pieces, "The Aftermath" is an invitation to navigate the topography of internal turmoil, in the search for a fluid "safe space", a cause for debate in the contemporary world.
Safety First! is an installation designed to make one encounter the paradoxical poetics of feeling safe, that quiet disquiet that may reside within moments presumed to be secure."Safety First!" is ultimately set to reflect the complexities of the human condition onto the contemplating observer, inviting an introspection into the definition of safety. An inevitable conclusion of this artistic translation can be seen as"failed schematics" of memory, which can feed the biological energy of irreversible change.
This artwork aims to chart the uncharted of imposing a(n) (i)rational (?) grid onto the fluid psyche that tries to avoid discomfort, pain, or loss. This very process becomes the central theme of the installation, revealing our human, messy, and inherent limitations.

Roxana Donaldson is a Romanian visual artist, a graduate of the University of Bucharest with a BA in Applied Aesthetics and an interdisciplinary MA within the Visual Studies Program (Theory and Practice of the Artistic Image) of CESI (Center of Excellence for the Study of the Image). Roxana primarily identifies as a visual artist with an affinity for Conceptual Art, defining herself as a painter who works at the intersection of image and word. Her artistic practice explores and reflects upon themes of identity, memory, and the human-plant connection, with prominent accents of Post-Minimalism and Process Art. She is keen on constructing artistic artifacts and combining them with series of paintings that create modular installations that evolve over time and are re-arranged in a site-specific manner to further explore diverse angles of the proposed themes.
