Historically referring to solo improvisations in mambo, open shines is an inspiring phrasing for opening the space for people to shine one by one.
This is a course focused on musicality, improvisation and personal flavour: developing your 'inner swing', by combining techniques for solo jazz with practices for a clear, comfortable connection with your partner.
•• APPROACH: a contemporary take on vernacular jazz dance ••
We address dance vocabulary as synchronized with developing body awareness.
We work on technique and, at the same time, on experimenting with movement: navigating solo jazz and lindy hop repertoire while exploring practices inspired by performative workframes. We use methods informed by contemporary dance practices, various practical and conceptual, poetical proposals to think about movement in relation to music, our body and our dance partner.
The course is a mix between solo jazz and partnered dance and will balance a focus on connection with a focus on individual growth into personal freedom of expression.
