About the event

Meurtres coloniaux : Patrice Lumumba et Mehdi Ben Barka l Work in progress
FR
·

➡️ Hamza Halloubi dévoile Its throat is parched with thirst, but it would not accept a single drop of water from alien hands, une installation 3D autour de la disparition de Ben Barka, mêlant faits historiques, hypothèses et fiction pour questionner la manière dont l’Histoire s’écrit.

Two major figures of the anti-colonial struggle, two defenders of Pan-Africanism, two disappearances orchestrated by multiple intelligence services: Patrice Lumumba (1925–1961) and Mehdi Ben Barka (1920–1965).

Produced by Moussem – Nomadic Arts Center, this evening features two artistic tributes to these emblematic figures, followed by a roundtable discussion.

➡️ Tim Natens presents La dent dure (The Hard Tooth), a monologue inspired by Gérard Soete, the Belgian police officer tasked with disposing of Lumumba’s body. For the first time, Natens presents this 30-minute performance in French (translation by Isabelle Grynberg).

➡️ Hamza Halloubi unveils Its throat is parched with thirst, but it would not accept a single drop of water from alien hands, a 3D installation about Ben Barka’s disappearance, blending historical facts, hypotheses, and fiction to question how history is written.

🗣️ The presentation will be followed by a roundtable discussion with Jean Bofane, Montassir Sakhih, and Omar Ba, exploring the political and Pan-African legacy of Lumumba and Ben Barka.

👉 The conversation will be held in French and followed by an audience Q&A.
