Swallowing is something we do without thinking—until it becomes difficult. Dysphagia, or swallowing disorder, is more common than many people realize, and it doesn’t only affect the elderly or those with serious illnesses. From a simple cold to neurological conditions, a wide range of causes can be behind it.
In this presentation, we will discuss:
– how the swallowing process works,
– when to suspect dysphagia,
– what symptoms to look out for,
– what can happen if it goes untreated,
– and what therapy or support options are available.
The goal is to provide a clear and approachable overview of this often-overlooked issue—whether you’re personally affected, caring for someone who is, or simply curious about how to help when “something won’t go down right.”

"My name is Kinga Naschauer, and I hold a bachelor's degree in voice, speech, and swallowing therapy. I am currently pursuing my master's studies at KU Leuven University in Belgium. My main professional interest lies in the assessment and treatment of swallowing disorders.
In Hungary, dysphagia care is still in its early stages, with limited access to diagnostic and therapeutic services, as it is a relatively new field. I am fascinated by its complexity and the potential it holds, and I strive to contribute—through my knowledge and experience—to advancing dysphagia care in my home country."
Everyone is warmly welcome!
