Bach Concert - Minimes Cantat

Our April concert’s first work is an exceptional rarity, a choral fantasy by a composer who studied at the Leipzig music school where Bach would later become director. It is based on an ancient Easter hymn that the Cantor would use in one of his earliest cantatas. Twenty-five years later, at the height of his compositional powers, Bach would write today’s brilliant second Easter offering.

Het eerste werk van ons concert in april is een uitzonderlijke zeldzaamheid, een koorfantasie van een componist die studeerde aan de muziekschool in Leipzig waar Bach later directeur zou worden. Het is gebaseerd op een oude paashymne die de cantor zou gebruiken in een van zijn vroegste cantates. Vijfentwintig jaar later, op het hoogtepunt van zijn compositorische krachten, zou Bach het briljante tweede paasoffer schrijven dat we vandaag horen.

La première œuvre de notre concert d’avril est un morceau d’une rareté exceptionnelle, une fantaisie chorale d’un compositeur qui étudia à l’école de musique de Leipzig dont Bach devint plus tard le directeur. Elle est basée sur un ancien hymne de Pâques dont le Cantor fit usage dans l’une de ses toutes premières cantates. Vingt-cinq ans plus tard, au sommet de sa puissance de composition, Bach écrivit la brillante seconde offrande de Pâques que nous entendons aujourd’hui.
