On the 15th of May we're inviting you to discover the amazing project of Northen lighthouse, which intregrates photography and music: Argentiera.
Argentiera, which includes a book of analog photographs, is the latest concept album of Northern Lighthouse inspired by the history of the mining village of Argentiera, 43 km from Sassari on the west coast of Sardinia, Italy. The mine was active until 1963 and many of its building are now abandoned.
After several field visits and with the support of from LandWorks and the director Patrizia Santangeli, he wrote 8 songs which include sounds recorded on site and modified, sounds of the mine recreated with modular synthesizers and the voices of inhabitants of the town, combining history with the stories of the inhabitants and the geography of the territory.
The album with its nostalgic atmosphere is an intended to be listened as a journey. From the houses of the workers, to the dangerous and dark tunnels of the mineshaft and again upwards towards to beach, the old cinema and the main square. It is also a time-travel from a past where the mineshaft was the main resource to the present where tourism brings a new life to the town.
ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Inspired by voyages, lighthouses and history, Northern Lighthouse makes electronic music using samplers, tape, guitar pedals, modular and keyboard synths.
Born in Bologna (IT), based in Brussels (BE), he started releasing tracks in 2014 in the windy and cold northeast of England where he lived for a few years.
His music combines elements of ambient, lo-fi electronic music and field recordings: soundscapes with a nostalgic and emotive atmosphere paying tribute to distant memories and remoted and isolated places.
