AbstractContemporary sexual recidivism risk assessment instruments focus predominantly on negative attributes associated with an increased risk for recidivism. They pay minimal attention to protective factors that mitigate recidivism risk. The Structured Assessment of PROtective Factors against Sexual Offending (SAPROF-SO) is a clinician-rated measure of protective factors relevant to sexual offending. The SAPROF-SO was developed initially as a standalone actuarial tool, with an SPJ additional manual for use with the original SAPROF under development. This workshop will offer a certified training opportunity for clinicians interested in learning to score and interpret the SAPROF-SO. The SAPROF-SO includes 14 core items across three subscales: Resilience, Adaptive Sexuality, and Prosocial Connection & Reward. Research supports its interrater reliability, construct validity, and predictive validity across routine and above average risk samples (e.g., Carr et al., 2025; Nolan et al., 2023; Willis et al., 2020). The SAPROF-SO demonstrates incremental predictive validity to the Static-99R, and users can now combine results of the SAPROF-SO with the Static-99R to obtain 5-year sexual recidivism risk estimates (Kelley et al., 2025).
