Deadnecks & Twiggs at Cross St Music hall

The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band weren’t just kindred spirits in the world of improv rock, they were also close collaborators. Their musical kinship was on full display during the early ‘70s, most notably at the Fillmore East in 1970, when both bands played together in an epic, all night jam session. This friendship continued, leading to legendary performances like their duel headline shows at RFK Stadium and the Watkins Glen Summer Jam in 1973, where they shared the stage with The Band in front of over 600,000 fans. One of the largest gatherings in rock history.

Their mutual love for extended improvisation, blues infused rock, and exploratory jamming made The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers Band natural musical allies.
