🤴🎼✨🇮🇹 THE ORPHEUS OF THE PRINCES DE’ MEDICI
📅 Sunday 24 August 2025 – 16:30
📍 Zaal de’ Medici (1466), Stadspaleis Hof Bladelin Bruges (BE) (1435)
🤴🎼✨🇮🇹 Step into the world of the de’ Medici family – a world of power, art, and music – right in the heart of Bruges (BE), in a palace steeped in history. Where once the banking branch of the mighty Medici family operated, an extraordinary concert now brings to life the captivating musical universe of FERDINANDO DE’ MEDICI (1663–1713) – THE ORPHEUS OF THE PRINCES.
🎶 An EXCLUSIVE MUSICAL TRIPTYCH will resound, featuring rarely performed gems from the unique Medici Harpsichord Book – attributed to Ferdinando himself – and works by his brilliant musical friends and contemporaries: Frescobaldi, Pasquini, Strozzi, Storace, both Scarlattis, Händel, and – as the cherry on top – Vivaldi!
🎹 Performed by internationally acclaimed professor Peter Waldner (Austria, with over 60 CDs to his name) – on a harpsichord after a Florentine model (from the Claviarte Historical Keyboards Collection).
🎙️✨ The concert will be recorded by the Nederlandse Concertzender. ✨
❤️👑🎙️ And there’s more! At 16:30, Bart Stouten – beloved former voice of radio Klara – will have an inspiring live interview (in English) with Sara Schneider (USA), radio host of Early Music Now, about the astonishing instrument collection of the De’ Medici family, the life and world of Ferdinando de’ Medici, and his connection with legendary musicians — as well as with Bartolomeo Cristofori, inventor of the pianoforte, the very foundation of the modern piano!
🍴🍛🍹 After the concert: Meet-and-greets and an optional Meet-and-Eat at ’t Huidevettershuis restaurant.
