You've Got Mail: A Screening of "U.S. Mail Computer System: Mailbox Explorer"
Step into an alternate reality where the U.S. Postal Service is powered by a bizarre, retro-futuristic operating system.
Join us for a special screening of the short film, "U.S. Mail Computer System: Mailbox Explorer."
This film is an "employee training video" pulled directly from the archives of the fake tech company, NERKTEK.
Be prepared to re-imagine the world around you, starting with the familiar blue mailbox - elevated from simple street furniture to a celebrated community artifact at the heart of this strange digital system.
What began as an experiment in data visualization in TouchDesigner using 3D scanned point clouds, turned into an obsessive project in urban archiving to capture every mailbox in Ridgewood, Queens.
From there, it evolved into a fully realized interactive art installation—a fake operating system, a physical workstation for postal employees (debuted at the NYC Resistor 2025 Interactive Art Show), and finally, this film.
This screening explores the convergence of new and old technologies, alternative futures, and the hidden beauty of our city's street furniture.
