What's Yours?

TAC is the only space that has known me exclusively by my name.

When I applied as a summer camp counselor in 2022, I applied under my dead name. When I came in on my first day, I introduced myself as Milo. Big “ M - I - L -O ” on a nametag.

Nametags are equalizers in any space. A small way to make things more accessible, and an invitation for every person to self-identify. Nametags are impermanent, and peel off at the end of the day.

What: Members of the public are invited to be a part of machine knitting a custom name tag, drop in!

When: October 18 + 19

Where: Textile Arts Center, 505 Carroll St. Brooklyn NY, 11215

Duration: 1pm-5pm each day

How: Participants will supply their name, Milo uses a spreadsheet to generate art for a custom punchcard. Then, together the card is punched by hand. Last, Milo facilitates the machine knit process and the nametag is knit! Participants take home their nametag.

No machine knitting experience required.

Milo K. Godfrey (they/them) is a multi-disciplinary artist and arts educator. Their art practice focuses on gathering and synthesizing information from their transgender life. They collect, sew and weave their HRT packaging to create artifacts which aim to connect their queer communities and those who are curious about them.They knit by hand and machine as an embodiment practice, and an attempt to focus their hyperactive mind.Milo's roots as a performer inspires the social-emotional approach that they offer in all learning spaces. Milo is committed to chipping away at accessibility barriers to art making, and facilitating arenas where folks feel empowered to learn cooperatively.
