Soft Speakers

Craftwork artists Victoria Manganiello and Nicole Yi Messier, WIP October residents, will host a workshop on soft speakers at Textile Arts Center.

On Wednesday, October 22, at 6:30pm.

In this hands-on workshop, you’re diving into the exciting world of eTextiles, where the boundaries between technology and craft blur. Together, we’ll explore how conductive fabrics and threads can be used to design and build functional fabric speakers that emit sound. As you work through each step, you’ll gain insights into the fundamentals of eTextiles and discover how textiles can become interactive and dynamic materials. By the end of the workshop, you’ll not only walk away with your own working soft speaker but also the skills and inspiration to push the boundaries of what’s possible with textiles and technology.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Craftwork is a multidisciplinary design and art studio that engages with the nature of textiles and technology through installations, storytelling, and material-based research. Founded by Victoria Manganiello and Nicole Yi Messier, their works operate at the intersection of materiality, technology, and experience, drawing inspiration from the history and future of soft materials. With over 20 years of combined experience, Victoria and Nicole founded Craftwork in 2022. Their background encompasses art, design, engineering, research, and technology. By combining their fascination with history with future-oriented materiality and their skills in traditional textile arts with new technologies, they create large-scale, dynamic projects with a variety of partners.
