Nature Walk for Palestine

Support Palestinian rights while learning about our amazing local and native American plants and animals! Join us for a nature walk in Prospect Park and make connections between Native American people, plants, and Palestine in the process.

Israel’s destruction of Gaza and the West Bank is similar to the destruction of the people, plants and animals of Turtle Island. Learn about Prospect Park’s plants and animals and history of the people whose land was stolen and the enslaved Africans who built the place where we now stand. Touch and smell and see the history still being told by the plants and animals which, like the resilient people of Turtle Island, West Africa and Palestine, fight back and refuse to die.

Seeds from the Palestine Heirloom Seed Library (PHSL) will also be distributed to participants of the walk. PHSL was founded in 2014 in the West Bank village of Battir, with the hopes to find and preserve ancient seed varieties native to Palestine and the stories in which they carry.

About Facilitator

Eman Rashid is a Palestinian and has been teaching kids about native and endangered plants and wildlife in Brooklyn & Manhattan for over 15 years.

Disclaimer

The exploration will be approximately 2 hours and we will be climbing stairs. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for all weather. This is a rain or shine event.
