Dyke(umentary) Nights at LHA: "Grit & Grind" and "SHAKEDOWN"

Grit & Grind takes us into the Clit Club, a legendary lesbian party in NYC's Meatpacking District in the 90s. In the words of filmmaker Felix Endara, "the film acts as a poly-vocal recollection of the sexually charged energy produced by this intergenerational, cross-racial, mixed class venue; and serves as a record of a vibrant neighborhood before it became home to trendy boutiques and luxury hotels."

Leilah Weinraub's SHAKEDOWN gives us a front row seat to Shakedown, a black lesbian strip party in 2000s LA. Weinraub captures the organizers' and dancers' struggle to create a "utopic" space for Black lesbian sensuality even as post-Riot tensions loom in the background.

Suggested donation is $15, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Doors open at 5:30pm. Film starts promptly at 6:15pm. Run time is 92 minutes. Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages provided. Masking is not required. Browsing LHA materials is restricted due to the presence of food.

If tickets for this event sell out, you will have the chance to attend by joining the rush line outside of LHA immediately before the screening. The line will form at 5:30pm, and we will admit people from the line based on availability beginning at 6pm. Admission is not guaranteed.
