A Sadistic Sampler: Exploring Ties that Hurt

Are you intrigued by painful applications of rope bondage, but aren’t sure where to start? A seasoned sadist/masochist in other areas of kink but unsure when it comes to rope? Looking to explore your understanding of your own kink preferences and develop skills to negotiate for hotter scenes? Through demonstrations and hands-on tying exercises, this class will explore the range of ways that rope can be used to cause pain.

Attendees will gain practice with sadistic tying through a series of exercises which center conceptual building blocks of ties and soft skills rather than specific harness patterns. This class will also center developing an understanding of attendees’ own preferences as well as tools for negotiating for pain and communicating effectively during sadistic scenes.

You should bring 2-4 lengths of rope (a limited amount of rope will be made available as well), a cutting tool, and clothes you are comfortable moving in. Tops should be comfortable tying a non-collapsible single column of their choice, such as the Somerville Bowline. Bottoms should be comfortable practicing body awareness while being tied. Tying pairs should be comfortable negotiating playing with pain. Time-permitting, tying pairs may switch during the class. Attending with a tying partner is recommended, but it is also possible to self tie or practice negotiating and tying with a few volunteers who will be there for the specific purpose of practice & learning.

About Instructor

Ellie (she/they) is a queer top-leaning rope switch, event facilitator, and educator based in New York City. Joining the kink scene in the fall of 2021, Ellie quickly found a passion for community building, education sharing, and making the scene more welcoming to newcomers. They value rope as a tool for connection, control, and creativity. In their own rope practice and as an educator, Ellie strongly believes that rope is for everyone, and should be modified to the individual and not vice versa. Ellie currently facilitates queer rope events in NYC through Bowtie Productions (Bowtie_Prod on Fet and bow.tie.productions on Instagram), volunteers with Queer Rope Social, and facilitates rope events out of the Upline rope studio in Connecticut.

Cori/Free_Flying (any/all) is a queer, agender switch with experience participating in the kink community in Philadelphia and NYC. Cori is a former educator and educational consultant, with over two decades in teaching and over 7 years in the kink scene. Cori is invested in making the kink scene as safe as possible, especially for those new to exploring kink. Cori helps to facilitate a POC-focused munch in collaboration with the Lesbian Sex Mafia.
