Join us for our 3rd Annual Brookings Memorial Day Ruck/Walk to honor the Americans who have sacrificed their lives in military service.
This event is open to everyone, at any fitness level, so bring the whole family. This will be a casual ruck/walk, approximately 3 miles long (roughly 1 hour in duration), that is meant to provide some social fitness and fellowship.
Not familiar with rucking? No problem! Simply put, it is walking with weight on your back. For more information on rucking and its benefits take a look at
https://www.goruck.com/pages/what-is-rucking.
Recommended Equipment:
- Comfortable footwear (Walking/running shoes).
- Backpack, rucksack, or weight vest. (Don’t have a rucksack or backpack, no problem, go ruck free).
- Weight for backpack, 10-20 pounds recommended for beginners. (Weight plates, dumbbells, bricks, books, sand/potting soil in a ziplock bag…anything heavy. Recommended that you wrap any hard objects in a towel or blanket to minimize rubbing on your back).
- Beverage of your choice (Water is always good, but we understand if you need that morning coffee/latte).
- Patriotic attire is a plus…but dress for the weather (We ruck rain or shine. A little discomfort from inclement weather is minor in comparison to the sacrifice of our fallen soldiers).
- Stroller, carrier, wagon, or bike for kids.
Route:
We will begin our ruck at Larson Park, head South along 22nd Ave to Edgebrook Golf Course where we will take the bike path East towards the interstate and wrap back around to Larson Park.
