Come learn the art of botanical printing with Jennifer Johnson, artist and creator of Plant Spirit Fibers at Twin Pond Sanctuary. Join me for a full day of exploration and fun with plants! You will learn everything you need to know to begin your botanical printing journey.
I have over a decade of experience working with plants for natural dye and botanical printing, cultivating or foraging all the plants that I use here. I have created a wide array of gardens here, specifically for botanical printing and plant dye. There will be plants available for use here and you are welcome to bring plants from home that you are excited about experimenting with.
In this class we will go over the different types of plants, the plant’s constituents that contribute to the wide of array of color and shapes that are transferred to the fiber. Each plant can produce a wide range of results with different mordants and on different fibers. We will also learn about “blankets” which help to create color in the background as well as a way to create so many more possibilities for getting plants to offer their image on the fiber. We will go into detail about all the different mordants, blankets, how they interact with the plants, and we will discuss some tricks to get really amazing effects.
I will provide nearly all the materials. You only need to bring a set of rubber kitchen gloves and a pair of scissors or garden shears.
You will take home a variety of silk scarves/swatches, your project samples of our work together.
And of course we will be connecting with these green beings as we bring their essence into the fibers we wear.
And you will truly be able to wear your medicine!
