DIY Container Garden

Learn a new technique in container gardening while creating a uniquely crafted and hand-made plantable container. During these workshops you'll mix and drape a cement infused towel (May 14) and return the next week to plant your container (May 21).

What is hypertufa? a mixture of portand cement and aggregates. Fabric is saturated with the blend, shaped, and slowly cured upside-down. One week later, you can plant and display your master piece! All materials, plants and instruction are provided.

This is a fun hands-on experience, combining horticulture with art. Imagine the fun you'll have changing out garden accessories for the season. Ideal for fern, fairy, table-top, dried arrangements, succulent gardens and much more! $23. materials fee covers everything you'll need to create the container, planting media, and plants. You'll leave with a planted one-of-a-kind container suitable for outdoor display. Proceeds support Levy Extension Nature Coast Master Gardener projects, Florida Friendly Landscaping, and demonstration gardens.

Session One - DRAPING

May 14 - During this session, Master Gardener volunteers demonstrate and guide you through the steps and process to blend portland cement, peat and vermiculite and drape your one gallon hypertufa container.

Session Two - PLANTING

May 21 - After curing for a week, your draped hypertufa creation is ready to plant. This session focuses on care and managment tips for the container garden. The emphasis will be on irrigation, fertilization and propagation. During this session, you will plant your cured draped container (all plants provided).

ATTIRE: This is an indoor/outdoor event. Closed toe footwear, hat and clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
