As we continue to partner with the New York Power Authority funding the On the Canals program, we are offering free, two-hour excursions open to all in our community with adaptive equipment available for people living with disabilities. Our excursions will provide standard or adaptive kayaks (see descriptions below) and accompanying equipment. Or you can bring your own kayak and equipment and join us; just sign up for the appropriate bring your own ticket. An ASL Interpreter can be requested with four (4) days' advance notice by emailing us at b3RjYnJvY2twb3J0IHwgZ21haWwgISBjb20=.
Wear comfortable clothing and shoes or sandals that can get wet and bring your water bottle, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a small drawstring bag or backpack to carry them in.
Excursions start and end at the Welcome Center (11 Water St.) in Brockport where there is municipal parking and accessible bathrooms. Kayaks will be launched at the Brockport community dock featuring a BoardSafe accessible launch and will travel west through the Village and then turn around and return to the Brockport community dock. The distance traveled will depend on your kayaking ability and time.
Excursions are open to participants age 12 and up or 9 and up if accompanied by an adult in the standard tandem. If under 18, you must be accompanied by an adult.
ADAPTIVE equipment is designed for those who need those adaptations in order to participate alongside family and friends. If you are unsure of what you might need, please contact us. Pictures and descriptions of the adaptive equipment are shown below. If you reserve the adaptive equipment, we will be contacting you prior to the excursion to confirm that you are getting the appropriate adaptations. We reserve the right to change or cancel your ticket.
If you need STANDARD equipment and all of those have been reserved, please choose another date where there is availability so that the adaptive equipment may be reserved for those who need it.
Excursions will be on June 29, July 6, 12, 13, 20, 26, 27, and August 3 and 17. They start at various times, so check out the tickets for the specific time(s) on each date. We are also planning full moon kayak excursions on July 9 and August 9 and Community Bike Rides for ice cream on July 12 and 27.
Please continue to check dates because plans change and tickets may become available at a later date. Last minute cancellations also happen. You are welcome to stop by to see if any equipment is available for you to join us.

FOR ADAPTIVE NEEDS ONLY: Each single adaptive kayak will have the Paddle Pedestal, Universal Paddling Seat, and Outriggers. Adjustments can/will be made on site depending on your needs.
FOR ADAPTIVE NEEDS ONLY: Tandem (two-person) kayak with one adaptive seat with the Universal Paddling Seat and Paddle Pedestal. You can bring a friend (who does not need the adaptive seat) on this ticket or ask for a support person to kayak with you (need advance notice). Adjustments can/will be made on site depending on your needs.
Paddle Pedestal: The combination of our Universal Base with this pivoted paddle adaptation allows one-arm control of the kayak. It also provides support to completely remove the weight of the paddle from the paddler's arms when using both arms.
Universal Paddling Seat: was designed with one purpose in mind: to open the sport of paddling to everyone. Regardless of the level of support needed, the seat provides as much or as little as the paddler needs.
Each support point of the seat is able to be independently tilted, adjusted or removed to create a custom fit. All supports are cushioned with closed-cell foam and covered in breathable mesh fabric for maximum skin protection.
Outriggers: The outriggers can be adjusted to two positions; either tight to the hull for maximum efficiency, or out from the hull for maximum stability.
