This is year 8 of our annual Fisher House Chopped Challenge and we have a twist! Besides the date change, like anyone expecting, we’re cooking for 2! The Illinois Fisher House is growing and welcoming its berets house in Northbrook by the Great Lakes Naval Base. It will be opening the week after our event, so we’re going to make sure there is plenty of food for families coming to both houses!
We’re going to do things slightly different this year. We will be making meals for breakfast and dinner in mind, but like we did last year, focusing on quick meals for all those families that come in during the week. We’ll be crafting:
Breakfast sammies
Quick omelets
Pancakes
Bacon
Soups
Pre-portioned casseroles
Ready made crock pot dishes
As in the past, all our Volunteers will get to cook, clean and serve our veterans, families and caregivers.
As a refresher all the food is donated and meals crafted around what we are given to work with. Businesses, Restaurants and Individuals can donate food items and must be received Friday the 1st or early morning of the 2nd. Common items needed: eggs, bacon, pancake batter, milk, potatoes, fruits & veggies, proteins: chicken-beef-pork, flour, sugar, sour cream and cheese.
If you are interested in donating any of the items or your time, please feel free to reach out to us! We’ll see you there!!
