An evocative set from the eloquent Palestinian singer/baÄŸlama virtuoso Zaid Hilal, supported by global-jazz collective BEJE, spanning epic sound worlds, mesmerising traditional and contemporary Palestinian songs, and punchy, rapturous dance tunes.

Palestine is a beautiful ancient land of faith with a uniquely scarred history which often overshadows its creative voices. This concert explores some of the wonderful music that springs out of adversity and expresses the deep roots of Palestinian identity.
Zaid Hilal is a compelling Palestinian singer and master of the ear-catching baÄŸlama, a traditional seven-stringed, long-necked lute, as heard in his intricate, emotional and remarkably varied compositions and magnificent and stirring improvisations.
Here, Zaid and BEJE/British European Jazz Ensemble show off their fine playing and rich ensemble work on a beguiling selection of folk, jazz-rock, and beyond, shot through with flavours from the Middle East. Their quietly epic soundscapes build to widescreen exuberance; beautiful, hypnotic ballads resonate with meaning; and spirited dance tunes pop and fizz with vitality. Just superb.
