Join us for a hands-on Modern Kintsugi Workshop where you'll learn the art of repairing broken pottery!
Modern Kintsugi Workshop:
Join us for a unique 2-hour workshop exploring Modern Kintsugi, a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with shades of gold, silver, or platinum. This practice goes beyond simply fixing an object—it's about embracing imperfections and transforming them into beautiful, meaningful features.
In this hands-on session, we’ll chat about the fascinating history and philosophy behind Kintsugi whilst you work on a ceramic bowl to take home. As we dive into the concept of Wabi Sabi—the art of finding beauty in imperfection—you’ll discover modern Kintsugi techniques to continue practicing at home.
Touching on the ancient mindsets of Precision and Patience, you will focus on careful repair and allowing time for the glue to set. You’ll have the opportunity to choose from a selection of metallic powders to highlight your unique creation.
Refreshments will be provided, so come ready to relax, create, and reflect!
About the Facilitator:
Jane MacFarlane is a ceramic artist working with abandoned ceramics, exploring how objects carry the weight of time, memory, and the lives they’ve touched.
By highlighting imperfections and patina, Jane’s work creates a space where past and present coexist, evoking memory, nostalgia, and connection. Her practice serves as a reminder that even the ordinary and discarded can hold deep meaning and potential, inviting reflection on the passage of time and the fleeting nature of life.
Her process blends restoration techniques with craft pottery, bricolage sculpture, and traditional golden joinery methods.
Jane MacFarlane holds a BA (Hons) and MA in Ceramics.
