With huge thanks to the Rail Operations Group (ROG) and Barrow Hill Roundhouse, the Branch Line Society is pleased to bring you this last-minute opportunity to experience a ride behind the Rail Operations Group brand new Class 93 tri-mode locomotives on the Springwell Branch at Barrow Hill Roundhouse.
The Class 93 is part of an order for 30 Stadler tri-mode locomotives, which are capable of running on overhead electric power, battery, or a diesel engine. These advanced locomotives will be used to haul freight, including new high-speed intermodal services, and are designed for increased efficiency and a lower carbon footprint compared to older diesel locomotives. The first Class 93 locomotives are now out on the network and are starting to be seen, but this will be the first opportunity for passengers to ride behind one in a passenger train consist.
Barrow Hill Roundhouse are celebrating 200 years of the Railway with a star-studded line up of locomotives from the steam and diesel/electric eras, across the 3 days of next weekend. Starring the world-famous A3 60103 “Flying Scotsman” and Deltic 55009, it is shaping up to be a spectacular event that can be enjoyed prior to joining our very special fixtures.
Please note, a Barrow Hill Roundhouse Celebration 200 separate ticket is required if you wish to enter the site prior to your ride on the Class 93 - these are very reasonably priced and available from their website:

We will be running 4 trips (17.00 / 17.30 / 18.00 / 18.30) with the Class 93 leading up the Springwell Branch, with the equally rare 58023 powering us back to the Roundhouse platform. Each trip will consist of 2 runs up and down the branch.
We have asked for a different Class 93 to the one used for cab rides at the Greatest Gathering in Derby, and will confirm the locomotive being used as soon as possible.
All profits will be donated to the Barrow Hill Engine Shed Society.
