Lucy, a Brighton based Textile artist will be leading a workshop on weaving.
This will be creative and experimental hands-on practical workshop introducing adaptable weaving techniques and approaches which Lucy develops and uses in her own Textile Art Practice. You will be using unwanted items of clothing as raw material, combining with other flexible materials of your choice, to open up thoughts around making, material and meaning. Throughout the workshop you will be considering the ‘developing works’ new Identity and other ideas. There will be support through 1 to 1 input, demonstrations and group discussion. By the end of the workshop you will have learnt some new making work approaches and have a developing piece of work which you can continue with after the workshop and start to build on other ideas which may feed into your other current project work.
People wanting to take part in the workshop would need to bring with them the following -
Materials
● 2 items (or more of you wish to have a choice) of unwanted clothing
It is important that the clothing is not wanted as you will be using/cutting the clothes as part of your work in the session. The items of clothing could belong to you, or someone else you know or you can source them from a charity/second hand shop, jumble sale etc. Please consider if an item of clothing is TOO precious to cut.
Also feel free to bring whatever flexible materials you have to hand such as;
• Any unwanted fabrics
• Yarns: wool, nylon, linen, cotton, household/garden string, plastic…
• Paper, plastic, rubber
● Anything flexible!
