Hidden Herd Presents is Brighton’s new music discovery night, spotlighting the most exciting emerging artists, ones-to-watch and hidden gems. This time, come to The Hope & Ruin for Y, wing!, Bones Ate Arfa and Divorce Attorney.
Y
Featuring members of Fat White Family, Pregoblin and Meatraffle, Y are an indie supergroup with an eclectic and unpredictable sound playfully referred to as “wonk rock”, “Gameboy thrash” and even “Egyptian wedding music”. Emerging from the creative crucible of South London’s “Windmill scene”, the genre-bending band were founded by guitarist Adam Brennan (Fat White Family) and synth-playing vocalist Sophie Coppin during a period of isolation. They released their debut EP via Hideous Mink Records and SO Recordings (Opus Kink, Alien Chicks) at the start of April, which was championed by Steve Lamacq on BBC Radio 6 Music and John Kennedy on Radio X and was described as “joyously unpredictable” by Dork, who made them their Hype cover stars. Building a reputation as one of the most captivating new acts on the scene, Y have headlined The 100 Club, toured with Fat Dog and shared stages with Warmduscher and Opus Kink. This year, they’ve brought their frenetic live energy to festivals including The Great Escape, Are You Listening? and Brighten The Corners - with upcoming appearances at Brighton Psych Fest, Wild Paths, Left of the Dial and Rockaway Beach still to come.

wing!
wing! – the alias of producer Adam Swan – combines heavy samples and ambient textures to create ethereal hip hop. Drawing inspiration from Portishead, Flying Lotus, Boards of Canada and Burial, the instrumental project melds elements of post-rock, jazz, broken beat and ambient electronica to mesmerising effect. After beating 4,000 applicants to win this year’s Green Man Rising competition, wing! is set to play the Mountain Stage at Green Man Festival this summer. They were also featured on a Slow Dance Records new music compilation with the track ‘Pack It In’. Expanding to a trio for live performances – featuring drummer Joe Killick and bassist Kai Charlton – wing! has been rising fast within the capital’s thriving scene, supporting Black Midi frontman Geordie Greep, Sorry, O. and The Orchestra (For Now).

Divorce Attorney
Divorce Attorney are a five-piece post-punk band with roots in Portsmouth, Brighton and London. Known for their unpredictable use of synthesisers, keytar, and even a Nintendo DS, their dynamic live shows have earned them a reputation as one of the Brighton scene’s most compelling emerging acts. Blending elements of art rock, grunge, noise rock, shoegaze and post-punk, they jokingly describe their unique amalgamation of genres as “post-separation core”.
