Dungeons & Dragons Therapy Group for Teens
This group uses the popular game Dungeons & Dragons to help teens build important social and emotional skills in a fun, supportive environment. Through storytelling, teamwork, and guided play, participants practice communication, coping with emotions, problem-solving, and managing frustration — all while playing a game they enjoy.
Who it’s for:
• Ages 10–14 (flexible based on fit)
• Teens who can participate in a small group
• One short screening session is required before starting
When:
• Saturdays, 12:00–2:30 PM (starting Feb 7, 2025)
• 1 screening session + 6 weekly group sessions
What a session looks like:
• Brief check-in and review of skills
• Guided D&D gameplay focused on teamwork and emotional skills
• Group discussion to reflect and connect skills to real life
Skills your teen will practice:
• Understanding and managing emotions
• Communicating needs and ideas
• Handling frustration and disappointment
• Problem-solving and working as a team
• Building confidence and self-awareness
Our approach:
The group is playful, supportive, and guided by Matthew Brown, Registered Social Worker. While therapeutic skills are woven in, the focus is on engagement, connection, and learning through play — not on traditional talk therapy.
*Sessions are considered a psychotherapy/counselling service and therefore can be covered by insurance. Please check with your provider for clarification.
