Christmas Hoop Embroidery Workshop

Get into the swing of Christmas creativity with a festive stitching workshop that combines colour, sparkle, and a touch of handmade charm. In this relaxed class, you will design and stitch your own decorative hoop using Christmassy fabrics, metallic threads, and seasonal embellishments. As a result, you will take home a handmade decoration to treasure for years to come — or a thoughtful personalised gift for someone special.

The workshop begins with fabric layering to create a festive colour scheme. First, you arrange patterned cottons and calico backing to set the tone. Then, you build up textures using ribbons, trims, beads, and sequins. After that, you add hand embroidery, working stitches that range from simple straight lines to more decorative knots. Because the approach is freestyle, there is no single right or wrong way to work. Instead, you enjoy the process, experiment with colour and texture, and watch your hoop design come together step by step.

In addition, you will learn how to add finishing touches that make your design shine. For example, you can add metallic threads for sparkle, or use sequins to suggest snowflakes. Therefore, every hoop looks different and reflects the personality of its maker.

Each participant creates an 8cm embroidery hoop decoration. Designs can be classic — red, green, and gold sparkle — or playful, with frosty blues and silvers. Meanwhile, some participants choose modern shades such as pink, teal, or purple. To finish, you add felt backing and a ribbon bow so the hoop is ready to hang on your tree. At the same time, you may decide to create a personalised version as a gift, adding initials or motifs. Because of this freedom, no two decorations ever look the same.

This session is designed for complete beginners as well as those with some embroidery experience. Clear demonstrations and step-by-step guidance mean you will feel confident quickly. In addition, the class has a calm and mindful pace, so you can relax and enjoy the process without pressure. As a result, you will not only make progress on your hoop but also gain the skills and confidence to continue at home. A printed handout provides all the guidance you need if you want to keep experimenting after the class.

• Felt backing material and ribbon to finish
• A needle and printed handout

The workshop takes place at Pretty Neat Gallery & Studio in Brighton Marina. The space is welcoming, creative, and designed for hands-on making. All workshops are beginner-friendly unless stated otherwise, and we provide all the materials you need. Adult sessions are for ages 16+, teen classes for ages 11–16, and family workshops for ages 7+ with an accompanying adult. Everything you create is yours to take home.
