Autumn Birds at Coppet Hill

Summer might feel like a distant memory and you might seen your last Swallow of the year however the autumn migration is still in full swing and we’ll show you the action down on the farm.
The morning will start with a bird ringing demonstration run by trained experts who study birds across the farm. At this time of year almost anything can turn up!
We’d expect Chiffchaff and Goldcrests to be on the move plus other arrivals from Scandinavia that will spend the winter in the UK and quite possibly on the farm. We’ll explain why and how we ring birds and you’ll get to see science in action up close and personal.

Afterwards we’ll head out onto the farm where we’ll actively look for migrant birds. Hopefully there’ll be lots in the hedgerows and nature friendly crops but this time of year is a brilliant time to see birds migrating overhead. Finches, thrushes and buntings will hopefully on the move and our guides will help you ID these based on their calls and flight patterns. If conditions are right, there could be lots of moves on the move!

This event is dependent on the weather, especially the bird ringing which needs calm dry weather. If the ringing doesn’t go ahead, we will extend the time out on the guided walk.

Bring suitable clothing including boots and warm clothing. Also bring binoculars if you have them.
