We will be covering:

*Working with an Illustrator
We will first explore the importance of story in the basic development of children's vocabulary, imagination and cognitive abilities. We will discuss how traditional stories, particularly as relates to local culture, can become a tool for teaching broader concepts or history. Some writing prompts will be shared and discussed.
After a short break, we will get into the nitty gritty such as publishing guidelines for picture books and books designed for varying age ranges of children. We will discuss the tools you will use if self-publishing that include steps used in traditional publishing. We will also touch on the importance of pictures in helping to develop the story and several picture books will be used as examples. Then how to work with your illustrator to get the best product you can!

Our presenter is award-winning author and illustrator Ruth Amanda who lives in St Peter, Barbados. She will have a selection of her books available for sale on the day.
