DESCRIPTION OF EVENT: We will be spending Friday and Saturday nights at a cabin in Brian Head, Utah and hiking the difficult Ashdown Gorge/Flanigan’s Arch point-to-point trail on Saturday. You are welcome to stay in your own rig on the property or in the cabin.
Main Event: Note that this is a 15-mile downhill hike descending 3700’ with most of the descent occurring in the first five miles. It is exceptionally difficult on the knees. We will also be walking through water that is potentially extremely cold. This hike is intended for those with extensive experience who have high fitness levels. The hike requires travel through slot canyons. If rain is projected within 100 miles of the trail, an alternative hike or other event will be selected by those in attendance.
Alternative Option: For those who are new to hiking, there will be unguided options of relaxing at the cabin, doing a shorter hike, or spending time at the ski area or other surrounding areas (e.g., fishing in Panguitch Lake).
*Note: This event is co-sponsored with the WWE: Las Vegas Chapter.
TRAIL INFORMATION: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/4093345412
THE PLACE:
We'll be staying at Christy’s cabin located 1/2-mile from the Navajo Lodge in Brian Head Ski Resort (location shared with those who register to attend). Multiple room options available. Some attendees may be asked to share a queen bed, but we’ll all be in our on sleeping bags. You are also welcome to sleep in your own rig or a tent.
*Please note that water is a scarce resource at the cabin so showers will not be permitted. Let's be mindful and frugal with our water use to conserve this precious resource.
WHAT TO BRING:
For the cabin: Sleeping bag, pillow, and hand towel (breakfast provided on Saturday and Sunday)
For the hike: Full supply of water for the day in a bladder, hiking poles (REQUIRED!), snacks, lunch, and dinner (none requiring a stove), warm or cool clothing depending on weather prediction (TBD one week before the event), boots (or water boots) with good traction, scuba socks (optional), light backpack, headlamp, personal hygiene kit (i.e., pee rag or equivalent, poo shovel), 10 Essentials ( https://www.nps.gov/articles/10essentials.htm)
