"SOFO Shark Research Program: Unveiling the Secrets of Long Island's Sharks" Long Island's coastal waters are home to an impressive diversity of sharks, yet much about them remains a mystery. In 2015, a dedicated group of researchers achieved a groundbreaking milestone by deploying the first satellite tag on a juvenile great white shark off the island's south shore. Building on this success, a collaboration with OCEARCH over the following two summers led to the tagging of 20 additional white sharks off Montauk. Join us for an engaging presentation to explore the ongoing efforts of the Shark Research and Education Program at the South Fork Natural History Museum and discover how their work is advancing our understanding of these fascinating apex predators.
