In a rare collaboration with an esteemed craft organisation, The Nest is hosting The Embroiderers' Guild's Celebration of Brisbane Embroidery Exhibition.
The Embroiderers' Guild was invited to participate in Brisbane City Council's Greater Brisbane Centenary and was asked to display historic craft pieces in their collection.
To add to the display, The Embroiderers' Guild challenged their members to create new work that encapsulates Brisbane's unique landmarks, flora or fauna through needlework.
The Nest is hosting a preview of their exhibition in the Gladys Mary Studio, before it goes on display in Brisbane City Hall.
Set against the backdrop of our Heritage Collection, it's the perfect opportunity to reminisce about how craft was taught historically, but also marvel at its vibrancy today. Plus, vote for the People's Choice Award, with the winner to receive a $100 voucher for The Nest Haberdashery.
In addition to more than 20 new works commemorating Brisbane
The Embroiderers' Guild will display historic items, including:
🌟 Two school samplers highlighting various hand sewing skills and techniques.
🌟 Two exercise books that would have been used in Domestic Sciences classes and added to during the school terms.
🌟 Various printed linens celebrating Brisbane
🌟 Work by the Guild’s first president
🌟 Earlier work from Guild members celebrating Brisbane.
