'threads - weaving stories' is delighted to announce our exhibition, 'Resilience', with the world-renowned Red Dress Embroidery Project, an intricately embroidered silk dress that has been co-created by artists and individuals, largely women, from across the globe, many of whom are vulnerable and / or living in significant poverty.
The Red Dress, curated by Kirstie McLeod, is part of a collaboration with Emma Bevan, Kiz Davies, Carol Kay, Kerri Thomas and Mary Wrenn.
We will be displaying a series of textile works which explore themes around memory, feminism, and violence against women, through contemporary embroidery and textile.
The exhibition runs from Monday 22nd September to Saturday 27th September, 10am to 5pm.
The Open Evening is 6-8pm on Monday 22nd, including an opening talk by Dame Rosemary Butler, and a performance by Dance Blast, using theor arial rig.
There will also be street food and a bar.
Other events:
During the week preceding and the week during Resilience, there will be a series of textile workshops.
On the 25th and 26th, there will be the forst performance of the play 'Siol', written by Rhona Richards as a response to The Community Shawl.
On Saturday 27th, Kirstie will be giving a presentation followed by a book signing.
