The community is invited to gather for an evening of reflection, learning, and celebration at the Indigenous People’s Day Celebration on Monday, October 13, 2025, at the Gichi-ziibi Center for the Arts in Brainerd.
Guests will enjoy music, storytelling, and cultural sharing that honor the rich heritage and ongoing contributions of Indigenous peoples in our region and across the nation.
Highlights include:
Presentation on “Why Treaties Matter” by Travis Zimmermann, Mille Lacs Indian Museum and Trading Post
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Color Guard
Brainerd Indigenous Education Hand Drum Group
Minnesota Humanities Center’s “Why Treaties Matter” exhibit, exploring the history, relationships, and contemporary relevance of treaties in Minnesota
Hosted by Lakes Area Justice Table, Indigenous Education Brainerd, and the Crow Wing County Historical Society, this celebration provides a welcoming space to learn, connect, and honor the resilience, traditions, and voices of Indigenous peoples.
This event is free and open to the public.
