Join corn-dolly maker Sue Tomkins for a relaxing and informative morning, starting with a brief introduction to the history of corn dollies and straw work. With Sue's help you will then make a simple favour using three or four straw plait to get you used to handling the straw. Sue will then go on to show you how to make the Sunspray, which is made up of a three straw and four straw plait mounted on a seven straw base. Each element is relatively easy but the finished product is quite effective and this is a modern creation using traditional plaits. Depending on the group size and how much time is left in the session, it may then be possible to carry on to make the Glory Braid which is worked flat . It is a two dimensional traditional plait using twelve straws. The twelve heads at the base of the plait are said to represent the twelve apostles and it was often hung in churches at Easter and Harvest time.
