Colourful Summer Stitched Mandalas
Explore colour and stitch galore in this summer mandala workshop with embroidery artist Jessica Grady*. During the workshop you will design your own textile art piece using Jessica’s contemporary and colourful mixed media embroidery and embellishment skills. The mandala designs will start from the centre of the fabric and build outwards, layering up with repeating motifs and shapes so that you create your own unique design. Your design can be 2D or 3D. Techniques taught during the workshop will include: fused bubble-wrap sequins, wrapped metal washers and couched ribbon fringing.
Jessica will provide all materials including her scrap-store and recycled finds, as well as more traditional beads, sequins and fabrics. Your summer mandala design will be finished with decorative hand stitching details. Jessica will also share her tips and tricks for mounting and framing your finished mandala. You will leave the class with your own piece of textile art, that you can frame up as artwork or even use as a panel idea for a cushion or clothing item.
Skill Level: Suitable for beginners as well as more experienced textiles-lovers!
(*Jessica Grady is an award winning embroidery artist, educator and author from West Yorkshire. Her work is a colourful and creative exploration of hand stitch and mixed media, and she utilises waste and recycled materials, which are transformed into exciting embellishments. Jessica is passionate about exploring mixed media to create fun artworks that take otherwise discarded materials and turn them into embellished treasure. She creates detailed sculptures and wall framed artwork all showcasing her intricate signature style. Jessica’s work has been exhibited in the UK, Europe and Asia, and she shares her skills across the UK and beyond through workshops and lectures.
