Mittagong RSL
7am to 2pm
The 21st edition of Tour d’Course will start and finish at the
Mittagong RSL, with a total distance of approximately 250 km.
Lunch will be an Italian-themed buffet meal at the Milton Park
Country House.
Organised by the Alfa Romeo Owners’ Club of NSW, and part
of the Classic Rally Club championship, Tour D’Course will
again have three levels of navigation instructions.
People can spectate, but as the cars are going by on public sealed roads, it will not be especially exciting viewing.
Tour: this has the route provided in what is called a route chart, which is a list of directions in order and in cumulative distance from the start. Each crew of two will have a road card to record the answers to observation questions along the way, usually information road signs, that will be at precise distances. Also there will be white corflute boards put out on the left side of the road at various points, with an alphanumeric to record on the road card. There will also be some passage controls along the way, where the control officials will stamp the road card.
Apprentices: this is a mapped navigation category, but has less challenging instructions than the Masters category. For this event, there will be an A3 map in 1:250,000 scale of the Southern Highlands area. The instructions will required the crews to derive the shortest mapped route that complies with the instructions. Anyone attempting Apprentices should do a fair bit of homework first to understand the terminology. The Classic Rally Club website has information on this here.
Masters: Not recommended for first timers.
The events are for a crew of at least two people. So club members who do not have willing family member or friend could team up with another club member. They could both drive to Mittagong and one of them leaves their car there for the day. It is fine for the driver and navigator to swap roles during the day provided both licences are included in the entry form.
