The Story So Far...
Fifty years ago, the world wept fire. The Great Collapse, they called it – a cataclysm that shattered civilizations and left the earth scarred and broken. From the ashes of that devastation emerged a world of scarcity, where clean water and food were more precious than gold, and relics of the pre-Collapse era – working technology, preserved food, weapons – became treasures to be fought over. The Deadlands, a region ravaged by the Collapse, became a source of something even more valuable: Strategium. This shimmering green mineral, pulsing with unimaginable energy, promised a clean power source, a key to rebuilding what was lost. And so, two factions rose to claim it: the United Defence Force and the Obsidian Order.
The UDF, clad in green camouflage, are the remnants of the United Nations, clinging to the ideals of a world that no longer exists. They present themselves as protectors, striving to bring order and stability to a shattered world. Their organization is structured and disciplined, their soldiers, while hardened by conflict, are treated with a degree of respect. But their resources are stretched thin, and they struggle to maintain their authority in this new reality.
The Obsidian Order, draped in tan camouflage, are a different breed altogether. A tyrannical organization driven by a ruthless ambition for global domination, they see Strategium as the key to absolute power. Their leadership is brutal, their soldiers fanatical, bound by fear, twisted loyalty, and a chilling ideology of control. They are efficient, ruthless, and will stop at nothing to achieve their goals.
Deep within the whispering woods, lies the village of Haven. It sprung up after the Collapse, a refuge built by survivors seeking safety from the raiders and chaos that roamed the Deadlands. For generations, they lived a quiet existence, farming, crafting, and fishing, until the earth revealed its secret: a rich vein of Strategium. The discovery transformed Haven, bringing prosperity but also unwanted attention. Fearing the encroaching darkness of the Obsidian Order, the villagers turned to the UDF for protection.
Now, the green uniforms of the UDF are a common sight in Haven, a symbol of both security and a growing unease. The village itself is a patchwork of wooden huts and ramshackle cabins, reflecting the villagers' resilience and resourcefulness. The Strategium refinery, built by the UDF, stands in stark contrast – a well-built, heavily guarded symbol of the power struggle that threatens to consume Haven. The villagers, mostly farmers and crafters, are caught between these warring factions, their lives irrevocably changed by the discovery of Strategium. The UDF, stretched thin, has trained and hired locals to help guard the refinery, creating a further layer of complexity within the village.
And as if the conflict between the UDF and the Obsidian Order wasn't enough, a band of raiders has settled in the area, harassing the villagers and stealing Strategium. They are a constant threat, a reminder of the dangers that lurk in the shadows, and the UDF's inability to control them fuels the villagers' growing anxiety.
Haven is a powder keg, a microcosm of the larger war that rages across the Deadlands, where allegiances are tested, and survival is a daily struggle.
