Aquatic Invasive Species in the Boulder Junction Area

The Boulder Junction Public Library will be hosting the learning session “Aquatic Invasive Species in the Boulder Junction Area” with Grace Maurer from the Vilas County Land & Water Conservation Department on Saturday, July 19 from 11am to Noon at the Boulder Junction Community Center, 5392 Park Street.

Maurer will cover aquatic invasive species identification, known locations, prevention, integrated pest management, and the idea of human tolerance of invasive species. She will have several specimens available. Guests can bring specimens of their own “mystery plants” for identification. If she doesn’t know what it is – she’ll find out!

Grace Maurer is a Lake Monitoring & Protection Technician for Vilas County Land & Water Conservation. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a major in Biology, Society, and the Environment and has a background in youth conservation education. She currently works to help detect, prevent, and manage aquatic invasive species and promote lake health in Vilas County.
