About the event

JAZZ AT THE FARM
Get ready! JAZZ AT THE FARM is back this summer for a memorable evening of live jazz from the soil (soul).

About this Event

JAZZ AT THE FARM was birthed in 2019 at the Urban Farming Institute (UFI). Thanks to Jazz Urbane we have presented world-class musicians showcasing jazz in some of its many forms, like classical, contemporary, Latin, and Afro-Cuban This August is no exception. Join us from 5:00-8:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 16, 2025. Experience an evening of great music at UFI's historic Fowler Clark Epstein Farm, an urban oasis located at 487 Norfolk Street, Mattapan. Relax amid the farm's lush summer grounds while listening to quartet and quintet performances led by Anabel Gil Diaz, Ron Reid, and Anibal Cruz.

Anabel Gil Diaz is an award-winning multi-instrumentalist, composer, and artist. A gifted and influential flutist, she can be heard on Terri-Lyne Carrington’s Grammy-Award winning album New Jazz Standards Vol. 1. She has performed at Reno Jazz Festival, Arlington Jazz Festival, Momence Jazz Festival, Chicago Jazz Festival and at prestigious venues throughout the United States and Europe.

Ron Reid is a bassist, steel drummer, composer and educator as well as a Professor of Contemporary Writing and Production at Berklee College of Music. Ron has performed with Carmen Lundy, Randy Weston, Dave Samuels and Antonio Hart along with a honor roll of calypso and soca artistes. He has released three CDs as a leader: his most most recent entitled ’Precious Metals’. His performing bands include the Liberty Quintet, the Precious Metals Project and Sunsteel in which he plays steelpans and percussion.

Aníbal Cruz is a pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader. He's shared the stage with artists like Paquito de Rivera, Armando Manzanero, Egui Castrillo, Joe McCarthy, Ruben Rodrigez, Alain Perez. He's toured internationally in Europe, Latin America, and the United States since 2018. He's the Bandleader of The Blue Island Project. The Latin Jazz quartet blends the vibrant rhythms of the Caribbean with the harmonic richness of jazz. Born from Cruz’s passion for cultural fusion, the project creates a soundscape that is both deeply rooted in Afro-Caribbean traditions and refreshingly contemporary.

Proceeds from the event help Urban Farming Institute provide Thanksgiving meals to Boston families facing hunger who live in the communities we serve--Roxbury, Dorchester, and Mattapan. Boxes are filled with a fresh, Vermont turkey, locally grown produce, and topped off with ingredients to round out the meal. If you aren't able to attend, consider making a donation.

JAZZ AT THE FARM 2025 is made possible through the generous support of State Street, focused on creating better outcomes for a better world.
